The Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL), in partnership with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), conducted a workshop on Advanced Trademark Examination for IPOPHL’s trademark examiners, lawyers, and select personnel held last 04-05 May 2017 at the IPOPHL Multi-Purpose Hall.

The two-day training was in line with IPOPHL’s initiatives to deliver quality and timely trademark registrations and to develop and maintain a highly motivated, competent, and cohesive workforce. USPTO Trademark Experts, Ms. Attiya Malik and Ms. Cynthia Henderson, lead the training in providing the participants with information on best practices and trends focused on: advanced case trends on relative grounds; examination of trade dress, 3-dimensional marks, and non-traditional marks including related case studies; proof of use by examination and admissibility; the difference between TM against Domain Name; use of Country names; and NICE Classification updates.

Director General Josephine Rima-Santiago encouraged the participants to pursue their quest for excellence in the performance of their work and the effective delivery of their services on intellectual property promotion and protection.
