March 3, 2020

The Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) has partnered with music solutions agency Homonym to collaborate on promoting the intellectual property (IP) system's important role in switching up the growth tempo of the Philippine music industry.

IPOPHL Director General Rowel S. Barba and Homonym Founder and CEO Roseller  Juan Miguel L. Constantino formalized the tie-up on Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2020 through a letter of agreement (LoA).

Homonym is a local firm that produces music tailor-fitted to be in sync with the branding mood a client eyes to achieve whether for a marketing material, event, or any visual media content. Homonym is host of the Sonik Philippines International Music Conference x Festival, the first of which was successfully held in October 2019 and was participated in by IPOPHL.

Touted the Philippines' first official hybrid music event, the two-day Sonik Philippines International Music Conference x Festival aims to highlight the creative and business sides of the music industry. It gathers musicians, music producers, and other movers of the industry to strengthen their bond, expand their network, and encourage them to rally behind one another  in turning up the music scene in the Philippines.

Under the LoA, IPOPHL shall participate in various Sonik Philippines activities throughout 2020 including being a key partner at the next Sonik Philippines Music Conference and Festival as well as giving copyright management lectures at Sonik Sessions and the Roadie Superstar.

IPOPHL will also support Homonym in establishing networks with relevant government/non-government agencies and  give assistance in its recordation of copyrightable works or registration of other IP tools should the need for such arise.

For its part, Homonym will endeavor to participate in relevant IPOPHL activities including workshops and sessions on copyright awareness and exploitation; the upcoming World Book and Copyright Day 2020 on April 23; and the first-ever Philippine International Copyright Summit set in November.
