IPOPHL intensifies copyright awareness, protection to push PH music higher in global IFPI rankings

August 11, 2025

The Philippines recorded $88.3 million (P5.1 billion) in revenues from recorded music in 2024, a 17.9% year-on-year growth which is the second highest growth rate in Southeast Asia, according to the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry’s (IFPI) Global Music Report 2025.

The Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) welcomes the opportunity to sustain growth through copyright awareness to support the protection, distribution and monetization of Filipino music globally.

“This rise in revenues shows the strength of the Philippine music industry and marks a frontier for the country’s creative economy. IPOPHL supports copyright protection in the music sector as more artists utilize digital tools to widen the reach of their music,” said Director General Brigitte M. da Costa Villaluz.

Streaming continues to dominate the Philippine music landscape, accounting for 91.6% or $80.9 million (P4.6 billion) in total 2024 revenues, and a growth of 19.8% from the previous year.

Downloads and other digital formats of recorded music declined 4.2% but still comprised 6.7% of the total, with $5.9 million (P337.6 million) in earnings in 2024.

Meanwhile, synchronization of recorded music jumped by 52.9%, accounting for 1% or $0.9 million (P51.5 million), while performance rights increased by 114.3%, taking up 0.5% or $0.5 million (P28.6 million) of the market.

While revenues from physical formats like CDs and vinyl dropped, they still make up 0.3% or $0.3 million (P17.2 million).

The country’s official Top 20 songs in 2024 showcased local talent alongside international stars, with TJ Monterde (for his “Palagi”), Maki “Dilaw” and Dionela (“Sining” ft. Jay-R) earning the Top 3 spots. BINI’s songs “Salamin, Salamin” and “Pantropiko” placed 5th and 6th, respectively. Gins & Melodies’ “Babaero” took the 7th spot and Hev Abi’s “Walang Alam” took 8th, signaling a healthy appreciation for OPM (Original Pilipino Music).
