Honda Motor Co., Ltd.  is ramping up efforts to combat counterfeit auto parts in the Philippines through its participation as a signatory to the E-Commerce Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), reinforcing industry-wide collaboration to protect consumers, uphold product integrity and strengthen trust in the digital marketplace.

The Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) facilitated the signing of the MOU for the global brand, represented by its local subsidiaries, Honda Philippines, Inc., which covers two-wheelers, generators, outboard engines, oil and parts, and Honda Cars Philippines, Inc., which covers four-wheel vehicles.

With Honda’s participation in the E-Commerce MOU, the brand will enhance its capability to remove counterfeit parts and products from online markets through expedited takedowns and strengthened platform-level enforcement mechanisms.

IPOPHL Deputy Director General (DDG) Nathaniel S. Arevalo commented that the globally recognized automotive brand’s entry into the E-Commerce MOU underscores the growing importance of the initiative in addressing online counterfeiting within the industry.

“Honda’s participation affirms the increasing relevance of the E-Commerce MOU in bringing a whole-of-society approach to the shared responsibility of fighting against counterfeiting within the automotive industry. By bringing in a leading auto brand, we further strengthen our collective ability to protect consumers and ensure that only high-quality and legitimate products are traded in the digital space,” he said.

DDG Arevalo further noted that Honda’s entry is part of a broader trend of companies within the automotive industry realizing the importance of intellectual property enforcement, not only in preserving the economic value and integrity of their brands, but also in ensuring the safety of the consuming public.

“This not only fosters a healthier marketplace for automotive parts and products but also helps safeguard the safety of Philippine roads,” he added.

Takeshi Kobayashi, President of Honda Philippines, Inc., expressed the brand’s strong commitment to the E-Commerce MOU, giving assurance that they will actively support efforts to combat online counterfeiting and protect consumers.

“Through unity, innovation, and responsible collaboration, Honda continues to lead the way in protecting consumers and promoting authenticity—ensuring that every genuine Honda product delivers the quality, performance, and safety that customers deserve,” he said. # # # (Rawl Maliwat, Communications & Marketing Writer)
