CAMPI champions IP protection, road safety as new E-Commerce MOU signatory

December 16, 2025

Asserting the important role of intellectual property (IP) rights in protecting both legitimate business and the motoring public, the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. (CAMPI) has joined the E-Commerce Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) as a signatory this December 12.

The Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) facilitated CAMPI’s induction into the MOU, which comes at a particularly auspicious time for the automotive association as it celebrates its 30th anniversary this year.

Acting Director General Nathaniel S. Arevalo commended CAMPI for the move, emphasizing that IP protection plays a significant role not only in supporting legitimate motor enterprises but also in fostering road safety.

“We recognize that choosing authentic spare parts is not only a matter of compliance; it is a commitment to safety, quality, and accountability for consumers’ sake,” Director General Arevalo said. “By doing so, we respect the intellectual property rights of innovators and creators in the Philippine automotive industry. This will contribute to their economic gain, an important aspect in fostering their ingenuity to produce more advanced and quality products for the benefit of all Filipinos.”

The group’s move to join the E-Commerce MOU comes amid a renewed campaign to promote legitimate business and combat the distribution of counterfeit vehicle parts within the country.

Counterfeit vehicle parts pose a major public safety risk as they are not tested and are usually made with inferior materials, increasing the likelihood and potential severity of road accidents. Signing the E-Commerce MOU will enable CAMPI to more effectively coordinate takedowns and enforce the IP rights of its member enterprises.

“This initiative is aligned with our Road and Vehicle Safety Pillar, which highlights our longstanding commitment to advance industry-wide safety standards and ensure that only genuine, high-quality automotive parts reach our roads,” said CAMPI President Rommel R. Gutierrez.

CAMPI is the leading automotive industry coalition in the Philippines, representing the interests of major global automotive companies and associated motor enterprises.

Today, it comprises 28 member companies, with regular members including Toyota Motor Philippines, Mitsubishi Motors Philippines, Honda Cars Philippines, Isuzu Philippines, Nissan Philippines and Foton Motor Philippines.

The association also includes a broad range of associate members, such as Ford Group Philippines, Hyundai Motor Philippines, Suzuki Philippines, Tesla Motors Philippines, Bermaz Auto Philippines, SMC Asia Car Distributor Corp. and VinFast Auto Philippines, among others. # # # (Rawl Maliwat, Communications and Marketing Writer)
