Competency:

  • Technical / Functional Expertise:

    1. IP Search and Analytics: Proficient in conducting patent, trademark, and industrial design searches using local and international databases (e.g. PATENSCOPE, Espacenet, ASEAN IP Portal).
    2. Technology Landscaping: Skilled in preparing technology landscape reports and freedom-to-operate analyses to support innovation.
    3. Strong ability to interpret complex technical documents and extract relevant IP and business insights.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Conducts comprehensive analysis of patent, trademark, and industrial design documents to assess novelty, potential infringements, and legal considerations, supporting informed decision-making for IPOPHL and its clients.
2. Performs IP searches using local and international databases (e.g., PATENSCOPE, Espacenet, ASEAN IP Portal) to identify relevant prior art, technological trends, and opportunities for innovation and commercialization.
3. Prepares technology landscape reports, freedom-to-operate analyses, and other advisory outputs to guide research and development initiatives, policy recommendations, and strategic business decisions.
4. Interprets complex technical and legal documents, extracting actionable IP and business insights to inform internal units, external clients, and industry stakeholders.
5. Identifies and evaluates technological advancements, emerging innovations, and industry trends relevant to the assigned field or sector.
6. Supports capacity-building initiatives by assisting in the planning, coordination, and delivery of seminars, workshops, and training programs on IP information, technology transfer, and patent search practices for internal and external stakeholders.
7. Maintains and updates IP databases, records, and repositories to ensure accurate, reliable, and accessible information for research, advisory, and policy purposes.
8. Prepares periodic reports, analyses, and briefing materials for management, contributing to strategic planning, monitoring, and evaluation of divisional and regional initiatives.
9. Coordinates with internal IPOPHL units, DTI regional offices, industry partners, and other stakeholders to facilitate technology transfer, IP commercialization, and awareness-building activities.
10. Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Division Chief, Bureau Director, or senior management to support IPOPHL’s mandate in promoting IP as a strategic tool for innovation, research, and business development.
