Competency:

  • Technical / Functional Expertise:

    1. Basic IP Search: Familiarity with conducting preliminary patent, trademark, and industrial design searches using online IP databases (e.g., WIPO, Espacenet, IPOPHL IP Search).
    2. IP Data Interpretation: Ability to assist in analyzing IP documents and extracting relevant technical and legal information.
    3. Report Preparation: Capable of drafting basic search reports and summaries under guidance.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Conducts preliminary and state-of-the-art searches on patent, trademark, and industrial design applications in less complex areas of science and technology.
2. Studies and analyzes specifications, claims, and supporting documentation to determine novelty, inventive step, and potential IP infringement issues.
3. Assists in evaluating patent applications and other IP submissions for technical compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
4. Conducts patent mapping, technology trend analyses, and research to support decision-making by senior IP specialists and management.
5. Prepares technical reports, search summaries, and Patent Landscape Reports under guidance, ensuring accuracy and clarity.
6. Maintains and updates IP databases, retrieval tools, and filing systems according to the latest edition of the International Patent Classification (IPC) and IPOPHL standards.
7. Provides advisory support to inventors, researchers, and internal stakeholders regarding IP search results, technical findings, and related procedures.
8. Participates in IP-related research projects, knowledge-sharing activities, and capacity-building initiatives to support the development of the Bureau’s IP programs.
9. Assists in the documentation, filing, and archival of patent records and associated technical materials.
10. Performs other tasks and functions as assigned to ensure the effective operation of the IP Business Services and Development Division and to support IPOPHL’s mandate to promote and protect intellectual property.
