IP Philippines supports Filipino lensmen
Alab Art Space hosts photography exhibit on world tourism |
As part of its commitment to support the creative industries, the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IP Philippines) is hosting a month-long exhibit by the Flickers Photo Club (FPC). The exhibit, billed “One: Celebrating Photographic Creativity in World Tourism,” kicked off recently at the Alab Art Space, located at the ground floor of IP Philippines in Makati City. |

Atty. Adrian S. Cristobal, Jr., Director General of IP Philippines, said hosting the exhibit is their way of giving budding lensmen a leg-up in the photography business. FPC, an organization of Filipino photojournalists and photography hobbyists from diverse fields, marks its first anniversary this year.
“We have a wealth of talent here in the Philippines, and our artists are of world-class caliber. It is often just a question of how they can break into the business,” Cristobal said. “IP Philippines opened Alab Art Space early this year to support the copyright sector, not just to celebrate our seasoned artists, but also to help those who are just starting out.” |

Cristobal cited the case of Harvey Chua, General Manager of photography and digital imaging firm AdPhoto, Inc. Chua, along with other photographers, who is currently spearheading the creation of a collection society for professionals in their field. The project started after they attended the visual arts conference hosted recently by IP Philippines.
The agency is helping artists form collection societies to manage their royalties as part of institutionalizing copyright support services, which is one of IP Philippines’ strategic goals for the year. Copyright protects fine arts, original writings, music, and technology-based works. |

The exhibit runs until October 5. For inquiries and additional information, call IP Philippines at 752-5450 local 610 or visit the IP Philippines Web site, www.ipophil.gov.ph. Flickers Photo Club can be accessed at www.flickersphotoclub.com. |
